February 3, 2005 brought a party at the Manhattan home of former New York State Lieutenant Governor Betsy McCaughey, co-hosted by Charles H. Brunie and Ambassador Bruce Gelb, for the release of the new American Council on Science and Health book, America's War on "Carcinogens": Reassessing The Use of Animal Tests to Predict Human Cancer Risk. ACSH president Dr. Elizabeth Whelan spoke to a crowd of scientists and other luminaries about the need to rethink the scientific assumptions behind regulations that hastily ban all lab-rodent-killing substances, no matter the economic cost.
