The American Council on Science and Health (ACSH) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to analyzing and reporting on issues concerning the relationship between human health and food, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, lifestyles, and the environment. ACSH is directed and advised by over 350 of the nation's leading scientists, physicians, and policy experts.
ACSH advocates sound science, and the belief that Americans’ continued physical and economic well-being depends on the advancement of scientific, medical, and technological research and innovation.
ACSH protects consumer freedom from a variety of unscientifically-based activist organizations, including the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), Environmental Working Group (EWG) —and others who use “junk science” and hyperbole about risk to promote fears about our food, and chemicals in our environment—and who seek to limit or dismantle many technological achievements, which contribute to consumer choice—and good health.
And ACSH runs a tight ship. Consider these comparisons:
• it costs ACSH approximately $10,000 a day to operate (based on 260 working days per year divided by ACSH’s annual budget of approximately $3 million).
• it costs CSPI, with their campaigns to scare us about the safety of our food, approximately $52,584 a day to operate (based on their annual budget of $13.6 million).
• it costs the NRDC—with its programs to convince us, without scientific data, that "chemicals" in our environment are making us sick—approximately $166,809 a day to operate (based on their annual budget of $43.3 million).
Just imagine what ACSH could accomplish if our budget approached the level of any one of these leading environmental advocacy groups!
ACSH’s work benefits the American consumer. Over the course of its 25-year history ACSH— through its outreach programs and educational activities—has played a unique role in empowering consumers with information necessary to distinguish real risk from purely hypothetical or bogus ones.
Now is the time to stand up for science in public health and public policy decisions. By making a tax-deductible donation to ACSH, you put your dollars to work, and you help ACSH to promote sound science and common sense in both our public health policy decisions, and our personal lifestyle choices.
