Golden Rice is a genetically-modified food (often referred to with the shorthand GMO). Although there is no reason to suspect that this process has any innate risk - quite the contrary in fact - there is a highly vocal activist movement staunchly opposed to GMO foods for various reasons, none of which have any scientific basis.
