Dispatch: Null Hypothesis

Nutrition “guru” Gary Null has filed a lawsuit in the Manhattan Supreme Court after suffering “excruciating fatigue along with bodily pain” as a result of eating his own dietary supplement, aptly titled “Gary Null’s Ultimate Power Meal.”

“Gary Null is called a ‘health guru’ because he was one of the first people who endorsed dietary supplements and organic food,” says ACSH’s Jeff Stier. “He’s alleging that the manufacturer of this product put too much vitamin D in it, but of course he has argued for megadoses of vitamins for a long time.”

“Whatever he argues for, the fact is that these supplements, like all supplements, are not regulated,” says Dr. Ross. “Such dosage errors are probably quite common in the wild west of dietary supplements, since quality controls, subject to no regulatory scrutiny at all, are completely up to the manufacturer.”

“In filing this lawsuit, it is almost like he is suing himself,” says Dr. Whelan.
