An analysis of Medicare data indicates that the rate of hospital admissions for heart attack was 23% lower in 2007 than in 2002.

An analysis of Medicare data indicates that the rate of hospital admissions for heart attack was 23% lower in 2007 than in 2002.

The researchers thoughts on possible explanations mention diet and exercise to be politically correct, but as we know, Americans diet and exercise habits haven t really improved in the past few years, says ACSH s Dr. Gilbert Ross. We believe it has more to do with increased statin use and lower smoking rates, as well as better detection and treatment of hypertension.

Here we have this good news, and yet all we ever hear from activists is bad news about how we are all getting sicker, says ACSH s Dr. Elizabeth Whelan.

ACSH s Jeff Stier agrees: This isn t consistent with their storyline that we need more government intervention like fast food bans to keep us healthy.
