Concern about mercury levels in everything from fish to drinking water is enduring fodder for health scares. The truth, though, is that our environmental exposure to mercury is not a real cause for concern. We were, therefore, pleased to see in yesterday’s The Wall Street Journal that Willie Soon and Paul Driessen had written a well-informed response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s new, even lower requirements for U.S. power plants’ already low mercury emission standards. Soon and Driessen consider such emissions in light of naturally-occurring mercury in the environment, walking their readers through the non-threatening realities of the situation.
